The client for the Labrador Woods project approached us with the vision of connecting a social space with the beauty of the outdoors. The goal was that of a naturalistic and somewhat rustic entertainment and dining space that could easily be accessed from a separate entertainment area on the deck adjacent to the house.

Situated on a beautiful, private site surrounded by majestic maple and pine forest, the topography lent itself beautifully to the three level living space.  After meeting with the client, two options were presented. The first being a more linear form, arranged on axis with the existing sunroom and the chosen, more organic design that is seen here.

The upper level of the lower two-tiered terrace incorporates an outdoor kitchen with stainless steel components for easy maintenance and the beauty of salt and pepper granite countertops allowing for food and beverage to easily be stored or accessed by guests.

The large, mosaic-patterned stone paving combined with the curved sitting walls set off the rustic tone for the space, and the integration of gently curved plant beds provide a softening contrast to the bold vertical and horizontal stonework.

The final feature, an inviting fireplace is just a step down from the dining terrace. With the vast woodlands beyond, a warm wood fire in this sturdy granite structure is just the spot to sit and enjoy on a cool evening with family and friends.

Built from the ground up, the grading of this property was incorporated seamlessly into this project, allowing for you to feel as if you’re either sitting above as you enjoy the woodland surroundings beyond, or floating throughout the various areas this final design has accommodated.
